Plastic injection molds are designed as hollow metal blocks with cavities used to shape molten plastic through the injection process. There are many holes inside the mold, the temperature can be controlled by oil, water or heater.

Gates in the mold allow molten plastic to flow in, which then fills the cavity through runners and gates. After cooling, the mold is opened, and the top plate pushes the thimble of the injection molding machine to further eject the molded part.

Guide Pins - Fit into one half of the plastic injection mold and align the two halves by going into the holes in the other half. The biggest role is to position the core and cavity insert in the correct position, avoiding steps on the parting line of the molded part or mismatch between the two mold halves.
Runner——connects the sprue sleeve and the molding cavity, and is a channel for flowing materials. The cross-sectional shape is generally circular or trapezoidal.
Gate - the narrowest point of the runner, where the flowing material enters the cavity. There are many varieties and some will snap off the molding when ejected. Such as submarine gates, tunnel gates. Some need to be cut after forming. Such as label door, side door and so on.
Sprue (Bush) – a tapered hole in the center of a plastic injection mold where the flowing material enters the runner from the nozzle of the injection machine
Positioning ring——to position the injection mold on the fixed platen of the injection molding machine so that the nozzle is aligned with the sprue sleeve.
Mold cavity (including cavity and core) - the space in the mold used to produce the molded product.
Ejectors (Pins) - push runners and molded parts out of the mold
The Shot - the total amount of material entering the cavity, including runners and molded parts
Ejector plate/Ejector backplate: only used to hold the ejector in the correct position
Clamp: Clamp the mold to the platen of the injection molding machine
